Cutting a black person's hair?

I'm about to cut my black friend's hair in a few hours, and I'm wondering if it's more complicated than I think it is. It seems to me that most (certainly not all) black guys have the same haircut, so I figured, "I'll just run the clippers over his head, and it'll be fine." Is it more complicated than I think? Is there anything I should know before doing this?

Man, put the clippers down because you know nothing!! There are so many fades out there I can't name them, you gotta be able to get the side burns right, etc...

Trust there is nothing simple about a black man's haircut because if you f*ck it up, your liable to get cut....

I think maybe you should ask him first! I mean .. I assume he does actually know that you intend to cut his hair ?! You ain't just gonna jump on him and pin him to the floor while you do it , I hope...

dude you're putting way too much thought into this. hair is hair. obviously he trusts you to cut it or he wouldn've ask you to do it. it's kinda crazy that you would even ask this question. there isn't a specific way black people get their head cut. if it's the shape up you're talking a/b then your "friend" should go to a professional for that. if he's your friend you should be asking him this and not strangers. friends can talk a/b anything even the uncomfortable things.
