It is getting warmer out and my poor cat is just hot and sleeps on the air conditioner vent. I am looking for some nice hair cuts for this breed, I have seen some pretty ugly ones online so far. I haven't found a groomer in the area to do it. I have clippers I do not want to risk cutting around her legs just something stylish to take some bulk off so shes not so miserable. Any links with pictures are good but I swear the only ones I see the poor cat looks butchered lol!
Himalayan/Persian Siamese hair cut?
OK, so I admit that I have my boys shaved. Both are miserable in the summer and play a lot more once they are shaved. They also don't have as many problems with hairballs. I usually have them shaved in May and they are good to go for the rest of the summer. I tried to just keep them brushed, but I would get smacked and bitten as they would not tolerate being brushed. Believe it or not though, they tolerated the shaving. Here's two pictures of my O'Malley. Try not to laugh too hard!!! LOL

I don't know that you'll have much luck with that...my long haired cat had the pleasure of being shaved last month - I think the vet's office called it a lion's cut or something like that...just left her foofy tail, lower legs and her head...when I got her home and out of her carrier, I was practically rolling on the ground she looked so hilarious! But anyway, that was something done more out of necessity because she was developing mats underneath the top layer of her fur and by the time they were discovered, it was pretty much too late.

I was told to keep my Persians belly shaved in the summer months because that is where they sweat from and she could get overheated. I took her to a groomer and they shaved all of her except her head. She was not uncomfortable after that. But I heard some bad things about that groomer being really rough with the animals, so I started cutting her hair myself and bathing her once a month to keep her cool and the hair shorter. It took some practice, but I finally got it and so did she. When I would say "Peri..let's take a bath!",she would run and hide under bed. But anyways(lol),as long as you get her belly done, she will be more comfortable. And if you go to the groomers, ask if you can be there and watch.

Cats are not supposed to get haircuts. Instead, you should be brushing her fur every day to remove the buildup of dead hair. A fur coat on a cat insulates it from heat as well as it does cold - but only if kept in good condition. Cutting a cat's fur off causes distress. The only time you should ever shave a cat is if it's fur is so matted that no comb can pass through.
Cats do not sweat, except from the pads of their feet. They pant when they are overheated. You may think your cat is really hot, but chances are, she's just too lazy to be active during the warm day. Most Persian/Himalayan cats are genetically prone to laziness. Lack of activity in the hottest parts of the day is a perfectly normal behavior for any cat - short or longhaired, domestic or wild.

I use my Oster clipper with a standard blade and a 1" comb to cut down the mass of my cat's fur. The standard blade that comes with the clipper is what many vet offices use to prep for surgery or clean wounds and it is safe for most cats skin. You get the benefit of shorter hair and it doesn't look as severe as a lion cut. If you aren't sure about doing it on your own, ask the vet or a groomer to show you the right way to use a clipper on cats. Just a note though, my 3 Himmies love the regular lion cut and it is much better for their skin to get all that air than end up hot, sweaty and matted.
