My 6/yo daughter been getting teased about her slight mustache. She has become very conscious and was asking if I could use my clipper to shave it like I do.
well, getting teased is no fun and could really damage a child, but once you shave off hair like that, it just grows back worse, if its really dark you should try like turning it blonde with like hydrogen peroxide or something....

You could try waxing. Shaving might make the regrowth come in thicker. The best thing for you to do is to teach her that she is beautiful. Give her a tough skin now.
leave her alone, my daughter has the same thing, that is leftover lanugo hair. You need to teach her to be proud of who she is and understand that everyone has flaws. She cannot change everything someone else doesn't like about her. I left my daughters as is and just made sure she understood that flaws don't take away from your beauty. She is no longer self conscious about it.

Don't shave it, bleach it with a cream bleach or wax it with cold waxing strips. Waxing will hurt like hell for your six year old though.
I wouldn't clip it. Waxing hurts but it would probably be a one time thing and work great. I would take her to a salon and let them decide whether to bleach or wax or use a depilatory cream.
Im not certain the answer of how to take care of it, but i would check into it further if i were you. There is no need letting her go through school with something that will only cause her to be made fun of. Maybe get with a dermatologist if you havent already.

I'd say consult a facialist, waxing would probably be better (but go to a pro, at six her skin is delicate). One of the nice things about waxing is that after a while the hair root produces hair more slowly and regrowth slows, when you shave hair the stubble is more obvious and may make it seem thicker. But at six? that seems young.
May I suggest the other issue is the unkindness of her associates and I imagine you have talked to her about how to understand others unkindness and how to not be too hurt by it (though it is hard to completely disregard). There will always be something about us that others will be able to pick out and try to make us feel bad about (the unhappy ones who are like that); it is sad that they do that.
I wonder if their parents know about that. I know kids will do a certain amount of that but I would want to know if mine were being mean to another child.
Well, i am a lot older than her( not that old) and my friend and i both have one. Although we don't get teased, try to tell her in a way that that is natural. If she is the "feisty" type, then i suggest you follow the other answers.
Get her checked by a doctor to see that there's nothing too seriously out of whack hormonally. If there's nothing too drastically wrong then, the most sensible thing to do is let her shave using an electric razor.

Take out the tweezers and pluck pluck pluck away. Go for the nose while you are at it. It will be slightly painful at first but eventually you get used to it.
If he can stand the plucking, go for it! : ) .. if not, they make those little tiny shave sticks, ya know for noses and such. They work great! Give it a try, my fiance' uses one, and it works great!

There are some women who dislike, but understand the idea of bodily hair on a man. Most women either don't care or just might like it, trimming certain more private areas is always appreciated, but as for chest, back, legs, ext you should probably just leave well enough alone. If your armpit hair gets in your way, maybe trim it, but don't shave it.
Alot of men wax their chest/back areas, but then again, alot if not most of them don't. It is all about personal preference to be honest with you. If you dont want it there, than take it off (except the armpits/legs, women almost expect hair to be there on a man).

No, but I don't cut my hair often except for once a year or so, sometimes less. I know it's bad for split ends or whatever, but I don't care too much about that kind of thing. I tend to get my hair cut when it's too long to deal with, and then I donate it to Locks of Love; they make wigs for children with cancer and other diseases.

Most common clipper guards go to an 8. Some go to a 12(I think), but by then, you can do a haircut with scissors and get the same length. Your best bet is to show the stylist a pic of how you want your haircut. I usually tell my clients that a 5 is around finger length(depending on how wide the finger!), anything lower is shorter, anythinghigher gives you more length.

I would get some more mascara because you're supposed to throw away mascara after no more than 4 mos. It sounds like you have everything else that you need! You can also get some more cream, you can never have enough of that.

Well, if you really want to cut your own hair, the only advice is practice, practice, practice. Get a good pair of clippers and a REALLY pair of edgers. The edge up is what makes the cut look hot, so don't get those cheap clippers and think that you can also do your edge up with it. Make sure you keep your clippers/edger oiled and clean. Other than that, you've seen people cut hair, so just experiment.
#5 or #6 gives a great crew cut and it's very easy.
Go to a salon. Home haircuts look like home haircuts.
what brand pet clippers are the best?
The best pet clippers are A-5 Osters. They run about $200. You really don't want the cheap ones (magnetic). You should go with a rotary. Sharp blades are important and clipper grease. I get mine sharpened a lot. Seriously I would just go with a shedding blade and combs for probably under $20 and do it daily. I've taught myself how to groom and shave dogs because of rescue. It's hard work. A professional groomer is another option.

I am a professional groomer. if you are just going to do it once in a while you can get any clipper like wal-Marts or an pet store. i personally don't like them as they don't last long, and you can't adjust for the length hair. I like the Oster gold 2 speed with interchangeable blades.They are expensive and so are the blades but the blades can be sharpened.
You may not need to clip your dog. Ive groomed some longer haired labs and with a full brush out they have a beautiful coat.
If youre worried about shedding, you MUST give your dog a brush out. This will take LOTS of time however. You will need to buy a slicker brush and basically brush your dog for about an hour or 2, depending on how long the hair is and if it is matted (tangled) or not.
After using the slicker brush, use a comb to get some more of the hair out. You will have to remove the hair from the brushes and combs every few minutes. You will end up with a garbage can full of hair! The brush out will remove a lot of hair and with regular brush outs your dog will BARELY shed!! :)
Id suggest NOT clipping your dogs hair, as it is natural for him to have that length. Try a brush out first. You may find it to be better. :)

She has very bad mattes mostly by her tail, and will not let me near her with sissors. I cannot take her to any groomer becasue they all want me to drug her so she is out of it, I think she is too old to be put to sleep if she is not getting sometihng serious done. Are there special shears or clippers I should use to get these mattes off?
A competent groomer should be willing to simply muzzle your cat for a short deal with the clippers.
The techs at my vet office clip mats from some of my cats all the time. Ask your vet if it could be done at his office.
You don't want to "get near your cat with scissors". Cats have extremely thin skin and you can really hurt them with scissors. You can't really get close enough to the skin anyway to get mats out. They form from the skin outward.

get yourself some welders gloves or barb q gloves leather for sure, they sell barbere clippers very cheep get someone to hold her and you just, first off i dont know of any cat that hates bruching they have a matte cleaner at the pet store not much money and it workds like a charm, after you have thios done or do it yourself remeber to regualrally brush the cat at lease twice a month to avoid this problem. or you can do it all at once pay a vet to give her a slow me down shot and shave her like a bald eagle at least the mattes wont bother her
Try small sewing scissors, but if that doesn't work, there should be a good groomer out there who wont drug her, just keep calling places and searching. Since shes a tabby, make sure to brush her once a day with a cat brush, especially after she gets the mattes taken care of. Good luck!
I never really know what to say. And they always ask if I want them to use scissors or clippers. How do I know which tools to use? I am not a hairdresser. But it's always a crapshoot. Sometimes my haircut comes out just fine and other times it's a disaster. One woman even moved the part to the other side! (should I even have a part?) (sigh) perhaps I should just shave it all off.
Choose a stylist that you like and can get comfortable going back to again and again. Next, take a photo of yourself when you have your perfect hair and when it is grown out. Then detail to your stylist, with the photo in hand, the type of cut you are looking for.
I have found that when people are on the chair and they have to describe the cut, things don't go exactly as planned.

either get pictures from a magazine or if you want it like a friends take apicture of that and take it in.

It is really though to explain what you want , but usually you want scissors , the blades are for sleek looks and the other thing i can recommend is try looking at magazines pick 3 or 4 pictures alike of course of the style you are interested on. Look for styles made with the models real hair , only you know if your hairis curly or not thin or not and you have to show them either a picture that re-shapes the haircut you already have or another that is a complete change but get same style diferent angles. make sure you see on the model the same type of hair you have same color and all that because you may pick a style that will look better with the chunky hilites than with a natural color for example. Change styles little by lttle dont go toa totally diferent thing at onceand also go to a good salon , where they see how to make you happy not to get rid of you fast so they can make more money. good luck

Yes, you can hair straightener/flat iron inboard, and even clippers, if the TSA has a problem with what you have they will look to see if it can legally go, or take it from you and have it mailed to you, not a Big Deal, you'll be fine, besides they just pass the Law where clippers, nail files, sewing needles,etc can come through security, trust me, I'm a flight attendant I know theses things...

Your flat iron, eyelash curlers, nail clippers, cuticle clippers, and most everything else is allowed. If you have the prohibited list, take it with you, as I've seen on this site some of the TSA Officers aren't reading up on their new SOP. This way if they even try to take your nail clippers, you can show them the prohibited list. Oh yea nail clippers have been fine for at least two years, only major change in prohibited is lighters which changed in April of 2005.

Hi again, Butterfly. When I first got my black Pom, she had feces stuck to her behind along with being severely matted. I had no choice but to cut it out and I tried to trim everything up evenly. I used scissors only because I felt I had more control, but a barber, I am not. It looked terrible until her fur started to grow back. If you want a more even look, then I would use a clippers.
ADD: I don't know how large your dog is, but this would work well for a smaller breed.

I too like the wahls, prefer the wahl km-2. I use a 15 blade on mine, but you can probably use a 10 with no problem. A word of advise....if you are going to do any other clipping, do this area first, because the blades do get warm after a bit and they don't much like a warm set of clippers on that particular tender area....think about it....would you??? :O)

When you cut your hair with the razor you trimmed off all the soft tapered tips on the end of the hair follicle. Now the ends are blunt and they are scratching against your skin causing you to itch. It will get better in a few weeks as the tips soften from rubbing up against your shirt and or skin.

Kidding aside, it's because you've cut the hairs and they are starting to grow back. That causes the itch.
It's not the hair growing back that itches, it's the ends of the hair that is irritating your skin.
The tips of your hair naturally smooth out, or are basically rounded off. When you use clippers on hair, the ends become squared off or, if cut at an angle, sharp. The ends of the hairs come into contact with your skin causing irritation.
Next time you get a hair cut, run your fingers though your hair; you can feel the difference from before and after.
The hair on your chest just like your face begins growing back within 24 hours of shaving. The itching is a result of that. Also, your skin may be dry. Try putting a mositurizing cream or lotion on your chest after showering. Good luck!

I've had this same exact problem with my 2 year old.. We took him to watch his brother's haircut, it just freaked him out. We tried one of those pricey kids salons, he still wouldn't do it. time to be the parent. find a hairdresser with alot of experience -not the cheap ones! tell him that he will get his hair cut and there will be consequences if he misbehaves. accordingly, reward him for his good behavior.
You could bring him to a kid's salon. They have themed chairs and TV, but they are pricey. My kids are the same way, except they won't act up (other than cry, only once though) if someone else is doing it because they know it's a stranger.

I had a hard time with this too when my son was that age. The sound of the buzzer esp would set him off. I found the only thing that calmed him down was taking him to a place that was designed esp for children. Cartoon cuts (sp?) is one place that has cartoons on that you can choose and the whole place is done in fun colors. Its a bit pricier but I found the piece of mind was well worth it.

My parents took my brother to my dads barber and they would set him up on a booster chair that looked like a horse. He loved it. Whenever my dad went to get his hair cut, my brother always asked if he could go and get his hair cut too. The shop also had a huge toybox out in the waiting room with all kinds of cool toys so me and my sister always wanted to go too (even though we never got our hair cut there). If he doesnt like getting his hair cut at home, maybe you could try taking him to a family friendly barber shop or salon. You could get your hair cut first with him sitting on your lap to show him it doesnt hurt. When I was a kid, I loved the chairs. I thought it was so cool that they could boost the chair up using only their foot : )

Bring him to barber shops that specializes with children's haircut. There are a lot of shops like that. The area is full of toys and a television that features cartoons, etc. When he sees other children on the "hot seat", he will surely be enticed to have his hair cut.
LOL...my son is 10 and he STILL HATES haircuts. When he was a toddler I just had to make him stay still and as he gets older he comprehends moms the boss...whether he likes it or not.
You could take him with you to get your hair or your husbands hair cut, to show him that mommy or daddy can do it. There are also hair salons for kids, try finding one in your area.

If this is what you really want, go for it! But it's quite a radical change going from waist-length to shaved bald. It's hard enough for a guy to get up the nerve to be shaved bald (took me a few months of contemplating), but even moreso for a woman/girl because of the social boundaries associated with hair. But if you're serious and you've got the support of some family and/or friends, then you should try it! It would be a good idea to insure that you've got the delicate, feminine facial features to pull it off plus a good shaped head, good skin tone, and no protruding facial parts like ears or nose. The process using clippers and the animal's fur isn't completely shaven off, just shortened so that he doesn't get so hot in the summertime.
Cats shed their overcoat in summer time. You may not notice a difference by looking at him, but that's what happens. Notice how when you pet him the fur won't feel so thick and it will come off in your hand. Instead of shaving him, you could brush him and help him get all the extra fluffiness off ----- you can get a good brush at any pet store. I had a fluffy cat and using one of those made him shed enough fur to build a whole 'nother cat! Go to www.petco.com to get some ideas on what to look for in brushes - they have some that will really help your cat shed some unwanted pounds of fur!

I have a black Persian cat and he does fine in the summer, but I do have air conditioning. Ironically just like snow can insulate to keep you warm I wonder if fluffy fur can help keep an animal cool??? Anyway, I have never had to clip my big fulffy cat! Best wishes!

I also have a cat with a lot of hair. I have had her shaved twice, both times in the summer (heat and humidity affect cats just like people), The reason that I had her shaved was because she was shedding so much hair that it gave her furballs several times a day - she was also having problems getting food and water down around the amount of hair she had swallowed. Please note that this is twice in 12 years, and both times she was shaved at the vets office.
If your cat is having similar problems, then it would be something to try. The hair will grow back.
If your cat is not having problems, and does not go outside, then there is no reason to have her shaved.
If you are worried about the length, (I.E. cat hair on the furniture, clothes, everywhere) their are many pet salons or pet stores that will groom your kitty to a shorter length that would keep you both happy with each other.

From what you've written it seems like this'd be your first time.
..so it's important that you dont just take the razor right to pubes.That's very likely to result in painful red bumps , inflammation ,cuts and a good deal of burning.
If you have a dense heavy growth :
*Hold tufts of hair and twirl each one a little and snip it off at the base with any regular scissor.
*After you've snipped off the thick hair ,get closer to the pubic skin by taking a clipper and bringing it upward to your navel in each stroke (go against the grain for a closer cut).
*Before you start shaving get your skin ready by a)scrubbing it or b) like me - taking a properly damp towel and rubbing it vigorously all over the area youre going to shave .This step is important since it's going make sure you dont get ingrown hair and the skin is spruced up for the shave.
*Be sure to lather a lot before shaving since pubic curvature isnt all smooth and flat like our face or arms..this will help the razor glide over easily for comfort.
*If youre going to shave the scrotum too then keep a good eye on the razor.
After your'e done dont immediately slap on any alocohol based antiseptic..apart from sharp stinging alcohol kills viable skin cells too.It's best to use any cream based antispetic you have lying around at your place.
You might start itching intensely after a day or two when the new hair breaks through.Rub with a damp towel and moistuerize..and that would be that.

be careful with the sissors, I would use clippers to trim it down to 1/2 inch long then wax, if you want it all gone. (wax doesn't give the itch when it grows back like shaving it off does) Be cafeful waxing 2.

Congratulations on your first lip wax!. I too was reluctant at first to do it when i was 16. From what i have learned from studying beauty therapy, waxing hair espcially facial hair actually becomes finer and softer. Trimming or shaving the area will actually make it look more darker as your using a blade and are only trimming the surface, thus making it a blunt cut therefore makes the hair appear to be thicker and darker. So overall your better off continuing having it waxed, as its longer lasting cause it removes the hair from the root therefore the hairs will be much finer.

Switch up what you use to shave with. If you are using a shaving gel or a cream stop for two to three days.
Buy some shaving powder that you mix with a little water and apply to your face with a "shaving brush". The bristles on the brush open up your pours and free ingrown hairs and eventually lessen the bump problem. They're too many to pluck %26amp; grow back anyways. They grew after I shaved that area once (in a useless attempt to get rid of my semi-widow's peak) with Power Machine Clippers.
Give plucking another try. I pluck my baby hairs, and if you just do a couple every day, eventually your peak will disappear. I know it's not a permanent solution, but it's probably the most sensible, given that shaving makes it grow back all gross, laser is expensive, and waxing is really difficult in that area.

I have tried probably every way to trim. Clippers can pull the hair instead of trimming it--think pain. Wax can feel like you are ripping them out (and some wax can get too hot if you haven't done it before, which can cause burns)--think pain again. Razors can give you a rash, and if you shave an area that constantly rubs up against your clothes you will get ingrown hairs. I personally trim the hair on the upper half with scissors until it's as short as I want it, or use a beard trimmer (no pun intended) because as someone else has said if it is oiled well it pulls less, and I shave everything south of that. Think "landing strip" or "porno patch". That is the most comfortable to ME, but it all boils down to personal preference--you may have to try out different ways until you find what you like.
Do not shave it - i've seen a few articles where men give opinions on things like this and they all seem to agree that stubble is disgusting down there.

Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for her. Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before she needs to relax. It will keep her happy, but reduce stress.

Muzzle the dog. Have someone hold him or her. If you are inexperienced, have a experienced groomer do it. Otherwise, you can knick the dog's skin and have a giant vet bill in your hands.
If the dog is not good at the dog grooming salon, have the dog sedated at the vet hospital and let the technicians groom the dog themselves.
some dogs have bad reactions when their owners try to do things in their home, but are perfectly fine when taken to a vet or groomer to have the same things done...try getting her into an unfamiliar environment or letting someone else try the scissors or clipper. there are over the counter sedatives designed for animals with motion/car sickness, but having the dog sedated can actually make grooming more difficult. good luck!
They have pills or some kind of spray you mist around the room to calm him down. It is used mostly to ease there minds during heat (female) or car sickness. But it should help your dog calm down during grooming as well. As much i hope this helps. I STRONGLY suggest you to take him to the vet where they will have him sedated (me and my boyfriend do this to our two newfoundlands) It kinda costs you, but its well worth it in the end. No fussy dog for you to deal with Because the pills or spray does not usually work 100%

You can take her to the Vets, or to a Groomer. The Vets have a higher Sedative they can give her to groom her, and it is actually easier to groom a dog that is out then one that is awake and afraid. My brother was in Iraq and these were his favorites: Can's of chew for personal use and bartering, sunflower seeds, dog flea collars to put around his ankles to stop sand fleas, bags of hard candy to give to the kids(anything that will not melt is good), beef jerky or peperoni sticks, pocket sized bibles to hand out to fellow troops and carry with him. Pretty much anything that will fit in a pocket and not melt is a good idea. I also sent him the Gatorade powder in bags that you can get at construction supply stores. He put them in his camel back and had Gatorade instead of water to drink. I wish your fiancee safety and God's blessings while he is over sea's.

How about some US doller bills soaked in crude oil and blood.
Tube socks to protect equipment and electoronics. Baby wipes. Any old magazines you can collect from friends. Homemade beef jerky. A draft stopper to put across the bottom of the doorway to keep sand out of the tent. Should be made of desert camo fabric.
anything that will make him smile. if you know he collects something send him that. if you know something that will make him laugh send him that. its the simple things that touches a mans heart. you may be thinking to hard about it when the ovious answer is right there.
Letters with perfume on them are great. Maybe a hand held computer game. A small hand held battery-operated fan. I wish both you and him well, and will pray for his safe return to you.
i have sent many packages to my husband. he has been to iraq twice and japan. anything you send is greatly appreciated- even the small things. if this helps you i remember my husband said when they get packages it is just like christmas time.

what can we use scissor wise to get it flat on top of the head for a shihtzu dog.I dont want to keep going to the groomers but I am pretty sure they dont use clippers there right? it is done with scossors but how do we have it not uneven and sticking out?
hello im a groomer and i can tell u from my profession we do use clippers we use guard combs over our blades and then we shave from behind thats how we get the affect of a teddy bear head

beats me...I have a male shihtzu with the worst hair cut ever....I just cut it this weekend, he wiggles around like a jumping bean, so he looks like I trimmed his hair with the weed whacker. Lucky for me, he doesn't know what he looks like!
Usually we use electric shaver. leave the ears and use tiny scissors to cut the hair around its eyes. Leave the tail with some long hair. Don't use shavers if you don't know how to use them!
There are a lot of books and know how on the net for grooming your dog. Just be very careful not to get hair in its little eyes. This can scratch their eye and cause ulcers so you got to be very careful about that.
When I got my Shih Tzu, I got a book about them
They have a chapter on grooming your Shih tzu, and tools that you need
I take my to a groomer, my Shih Tzu get a puppy cut, and the top is extra short. I need to go every six weeks, sometimes longer

My groomer uses electric hair trimmers with a guard, and yes i have a long coated dog and i don't let it grow extremely long, (I've cut her hair by myself before..its not a pretty sight loll)... my own hair would grow down to my feet too if i let it and wanted to do the up keep of it. how you cut your dogs hair is your own choice and just because you have a dog that is capable of growing hair to the floor doesn't mean you want it to do so.People should be allowed to make their own personal choices about cutting their dogs hair as much as they do their own without people butting in and being rude.
