Do I need to explain my absences from work?

So this week I had a string of bad luck...

(Monday)As you can see from my avatar I shave my head and one day I dropped my hair clippers, while shaving, and they broke. With only half of my hair shaved I had no choice but to go to the store(45 mins), buy new clippers, and return home to finish. Result: I didnt go to work

(Wednesday) After 10 inchs of snow fall I spent two hours shoveling my car out of the snow only to get stuck two blocks from my house.

Result: I didnt go to work

(Thursday) I arrived at work and talked to coworkers for an hour then felt horrible and came home.

As a manager I hate hearing excuses from people so I dont give them. I go to work, apologize, and tell my supervisor that I was late or absent and I have no excuse. But now that I'm on salary I dont want my boss to think I'm staying home cause I'll get paid anyways. I'm not lazy and thats why I was promoted to this postion in the first place. If you were my boss would you want to hear my excuses?

If you don't want to explain yourself then don't explain yourself. But if someone brings it up it might be nice to let them know you weren't being lazy and skipping out. Heck, I think what happened is kinda comical and definitely not the kind of thing someone makes up. Share it and you might even get a couple laughs!

Do I need to explain my absences from work?

yes, missing work without knowing why as ur boss i would be more concerned than if u gave me a reason, the hair cut is lame, but i'm sure the snow is legit, and maybe the not feeling well is too. better he know the truth than b left to wonder if u give a rat's a-- about your employment gl

Do I need to explain my absences from work?

It depends. Do you have personal days? If not you have to give a reason for not coming in are they considered paid vacation time? See that is the thing if you are using your days they really can't say anything. But if you are calling off and not saying why or coming in late and/or leaving early and not giving a reason it looks bad. Unless you been there for like 20 plus years. But even then I would say something. If its weather that is a good excuse. As long as you don't do it often most people should understand.

Missing work for 3 days without any rationale does not look good. No i doubt excuses will help the situtation. Best cure would be to get abck to work, and show them why they promoted you to begin with. By chance If your supervisor wants you to have a meeting with you and someone in HR, then you better come up with a good story, feeling depressed or something that they will believe might fly.

I don't think you need to give him a lengthy explanation for the absences but I do think you need to tell him something as to why you ave been missing from work. You would want to hear something from one of your employees don't you think? I mean, would you want them to say "I've been out, and I have no excuse."? Sit down and let him know what's been going on and that you have it under control now and it isn't going to be a problem going forward for you.

Do I need to explain my absences from work?

Yes. You should. To maintain any relationship, regardless of being business or personal, one must have trust and respect.

You cut your hair on Monday, your must boss noticed your lack of hair on Tuesday. Did you have the respect to call your boss by 9:00 am that you were unable to come in?

On Wed did you call you boss and tell him where you were and that if he absolutely needed you he could call or send a car?

On Thursday, when were were fooling around instead of catching up did you take the time to talk to your manager and tell you boss how you bad you felt?

Your boss is going to think: 1 Why did you decide to cut you hair on school night? Do it on the weekend and get it done properly. 2. You know a snow storm is coming thanks to weather mongering. Did you forget to use the alternate alternate way in, or this is this first time it snowed? 3. When you were shoveling you were dressed poorly and failed to care of yourself. Why are you spending time talking to your co workers and failing to catch up? Just think you have turned into your staff.
