How do I describe how I want my hair to be cut?

I never really know what to say. And they always ask if I want them to use scissors or clippers. How do I know which tools to use? I am not a hairdresser. But it's always a crapshoot. Sometimes my haircut comes out just fine and other times it's a disaster. One woman even moved the part to the other side! (should I even have a part?) (sigh) perhaps I should just shave it all off.

It is really though to explain what you want , but usually you want scissors , the blades are for sleek looks and the other thing i can recommend is try looking at magazines pick 3 or 4 pictures alike of course of the style you are interested on. Look for styles made with the models real hair , only you know if your hairis curly or not thin or not and you have to show them either a picture that re-shapes the haircut you already have or another that is a complete change but get same style diferent angles. make sure you see on the model the same type of hair you have same color and all that because you may pick a style that will look better with the chunky hilites than with a natural color for example. Change styles little by lttle dont go toa totally diferent thing at onceand also go to a good salon , where they see how to make you happy not to get rid of you fast so they can make more money. good luck
