Shaving a Pug?

Our pug, Bubba, is shedding like crazy and needs a hair cut. I used to take him to petsmart and have them groom him with a cut but can't do that now that he needs his new shots and is off the insurance. I plan on putting him back on very soon but until then the groomers won't take him. So I plan on doing it myself with the help of my husband and his clippers. Has anyone ever done a home hair cut before? Is it safe to use human hair clippers? What's your experience?

Shaving a Pug?

No, it is not safe to use human clippers. They don't have enough power and aren't durable enough.

There is absolutely no reason to shave a pug. He doesn't need a shave, he needs a thorough brush out and bath. If you give him a good warm bath and scrub really well ( I use a Zoom Groom for scrubbing the body and a rubber curry for the legs and head), followed by a really good brushing with a soft slicker, then a shedding blade, then the Zoom Groom and currry (and possibly a Furnimator), you will see a drastic reduction in the amount of shedding. He'll still shed, but not as much.

A high-qualtiy diet also helps with shedding by promoting healthy skin and coat.

Nothing will stop it completely, but you can get it down to something manageable. Plus, regular brushing is good for his skin and coat and provides a good bonding opportunity for you and the dog.

Pugs are a short coated breed of dog. Why would he need a hair cut?

Shaving a Pug?

Dont shave a short haired dog.

Take him outside and brush him regularly. This will get rid of the loose hair.

How funny would a shaved pug look ? LOL

Shaving a Pug?

don't shave him, groom him. A groomed dog doesn't shed as much.

Shaving a Pug?

Pugs are heavy shedders, for a short-haired dog. They should never be shaved. Just give him a bath, and brush him. That's all that happens when you take him to the groomer - besides a nail trimming. If you brush him regularly, you can manage the shedding better.
