How do I shave my head?

I've had a bob for a few years now and I got really sick of it last week and decided I want to shave it off. I went to see my hairstylist but she wouldn't do it.... So i bought some hair clippers earlier today and now I really want to do it, but I'm not sure how. Is it better to go against the grain, like from forehead to back or from back to front? I'm assuming it doesen't matter... But just in case, I don't want to look stupid. I want it to be the same length all over.

Also, which plastic thingy should I use? I want it to be really really short, like you see young boys get in the summer.

A barber is more likely to shave your head than a hairstylist. Many won't even care that you're a woman.

But if you're going to do it yourself, it's probably best if you took some scissors and started snipping until it's only an inch or two all over, then break out the clippers. That way they won't keep jamming.

If you want a TRUE headshave, get yourself a Mach 3 or Turbo razor and some shaving gel. After you use your clippers to buzz your hair down to stubble, wrap a hot towel around your head for about 30 seconds. If one isn't available, you can jump into the shower and let (not too) hot water run over your scalp for about 5 minutes. Then cover your head with shaving gel or foam until a nice lather is realized. Take out your razor and gently shave against the grain over your entire head. Don't rush through it so as to avoid nicks. Feel over your scalp afterwards for any rough spots. Re-lather and repeat if necessary. Wipe scalp completely with warm damp cloth.

The next step is optional but recommended to prevent dry scalp and to keep it silky and soft. Put a few dabs of baby oil GEL with aloe and vitamin E (you can use the liquid if you don't mind making a mess) onto your fingertips. Massage into and evenly all over your scalp.

I must say I admire your bravery. It's difficult enough for a guy to work up the nerve to shave his head, but even tenfold at least for a woman. I've got a feeling you're going to rock it for all it's worth. And if you don't like it, it will grow back. If possible, post pictures, preferably before and after.

You should go front to back, and the longer the "plastic thingy," the longer it will leave your hair... i would start out with the larger ones if you're not sure and redo it if you want it shorter

I think that would be a number 2 or 3. Number 1 is really really short. I watched my husband do it, you just go against the grain, you may as well start at the front, then you can see it when you first start. Although too late anyway by then!! Just make sure you go over the whole head well cause you can get little stumpy bits if you miss patches. I don't think it matters if you start at the front or back really.

If you want it like boys have it in the summer i suggest using the 4th longest gaurd. This way its not BALD but close enough that you don't see your scalp. When using the clippers it's best to do front to back. However Shaving your head with a razor it's best to do it opposite... Hope that helps Go for it! I think its real enpowering for women.

I think you better let a professional do that. Your hairstylist is not the only stylist around that can cut your hair. You want to look good which am sure you can be able to achieve but why experiment with yourself.

you can start in the front and work towards the back. the plastic things will determine the length of your hair depending on which one you choose. a #1 is an 1/8 inch #2 1/4 inch and so on. I have used #2 %26amp; 3 on girls before and it leaves a nice velvet fuzz. wait a couple of weeks if you decide to razor shave your head, allow some sun to tan your head with a little hair before you go completly smooth and get sunburned or look like a ghost head. it really is simple to do this haircut. if you need help just ask here.
