My mom os a strict disciplinarian.She too strict abt my clothes,hair,my friends. Till I was in 6th grade my mom used to take me to the barber and ask him to cut my hair extra short like a crew cut. But then I used to request the barber to spare my bangs.Now for the past 4 years my mom has been cutting my hair ridiculously short on her own since no barber will admit me and no beauty parlour is willing to cut my hair that short.Since my mom is no beautician she simply takes the clippers a gives me a 1/4inch buzz cut all-over.I feel like a nerd boy.Mind u she herself sports a short (but cute pixie cut).When i asked her if i could have the same hairstyle she simply said NO.She says that since i am a part of school swim team and basketball team I should wear it like a 'Athlete'.Ridiculous really.My friends r used to it so they don't ridicule me.What should i do?? I can't complain to dad since he simply supports my mom.can i take it up anyone else???

Run when she starts coming. :) No I'm kidding, but sit down with her and try your hardest to explain exactly how you feel. Maybe ask her if you can grow it out for about 6 months and see if she likes it. Honestly, I believe it's your hair and you should be able to do what you want, but I know how parents can be. Ask again. Ask again. Don't beg or wine about it, just ask to wear your hair and grow it the way you like. Sit her down, tell her

"Mom, I do not like my hair the way it is. I don't want this to come between us".

And if she talked about sports and being an athlete, simply tell her

"let me try, and i'll see how I'll manage... if I face problems, at least I would have tried and figured out you (your mom) is right".

Ask her if you quit sports if you can have whatever hair style you want...? If she says yes, then you know what the problem is! She may have issues with girls and sports. Although, she may just be insane.

Your mom sounds like a control freak. At sixteen you should be able to pick you own hairstyle. I think this is a form of child abuse/assault. She is taking over a part of your body and making the deisions. As far as what to do I would talk to another adult who your mom may respect and ask them to talk to her.

This child abuse. Call the Childrens Protection Agency( Usually the Welfare Dept) and ask to talk to a caseworker, your MOM needs counseling to help her and you need it to help with your Mom. The caseworker can hook you up.

Talk to ur mom..and tell her that u want ur hair to grow longer..talk to her like Vvvvvvvvvvvverrrrrrrrryyyyyy nicely..and tell ur dad ALONE about ur problem..if she says no..dont go complaining..just take it calmly..if u act nice by doing chores and stop complaining to go places and stuff..she will probably take u as more responsible

Oh, hon, I'm sorry! The best you can do is sit down and explain to her how you feel. Don't get angry and don't yell. If that doesn't work, try writing your feelings down and giving it to her during a time she seems to be in a good mood.

I once read an article where the guy was talking about all the silly styles he has seen on kids nowadays, not to mention the strange styles his own kids have come home in. He ended the article with, "I prefer to worry more about what is going on INSIDE my kids' heads than what is ON their heads."

Since your parents won't listen, you should find another adult to intervene, maybe a school guidance councellor who could require your mom to come to your school and talk to her. I might be exaggerating but this sounds like it's almost abuse. Or insanity. I went through a weird phase when I WANTED a crew cut, and my parents wouldn't let me get it cut that short. Normal parents don't shave their daughters' heads!

BTW if all else fails, maybe you could get a wig that you can put on at school and take off when you come home.

Sit down with her, and firmly but calmly say, "Mom, I am sixteen years old. I would like some say in how my hair is cut." If she continues to refuse, remind her, "Mom, I know you think this is for my own good, but it makes me uncomfortable and I think that I am old enough to have some say in this matter." If she points out that you're an athlete, say, "I would just like to try" and explain why you feel you should be allowed to try.

If you feel that your mom is doing this for possible other reasons than hair, or if you just need an extra person to talk about this with and find a solution, speak with your school guidance counselor. Don't feel nervous to do so; they're there to help, and plenty of other kids rely on school guidance counselors too, and they can really help.

I know 2 years seems like forever to you right now because you are so young . The very best advice I can give you is to learn everything you can for the next couple of years , then get out the day you turn 18 . You will need to support yourself so study hard . You will need to find a girl friend to share expenses with , then work hard and put yourself through college . It only takes 2 years to get an aa degree at a junior college .Just think at age twenty you could have a college degree . Don't go wild and get in trouble . You are not ready for a relationship so be careful not to derail your plans for the future . You can be anything you want to be . Just hang with the torture for a couple more years . Your mom has her reasons and you can't change them , don't even try . She is trying to hide your femaleness . Maybe she was abused . In any case it's best to keep it hidden for now . You have many wonderful years ahead of high school . Stay sane till it's over .

Bluff, and say you're going to quit swimming and basketball so you can let your hair grow out. She'll either cave or, when she tells you you still have to get it cut, ask her why, and she'll have no reason and you can trap her.

And if that doesn't work, make an appointment with your school's guidance counselor, who will take YOUR side in this. Maybe you can find out why she does it, and convince her it won't happen. Or your guidance counselor could convince her.
